St. John's African Methodist Episcopal Church Quarterly Tickets, 1906-1907

By: (Cook, Rev. W. D.)

Price: $40.00

Publisher: (Norfolk), (St. John's AME Church): 1906, 1907

Seller ID: 16396

These are three Quarterly Tickets from an AME Church. One of the tickets is dated 1906; the other two, 1907. The Pastor of the church is W. D. Cook. I have found W. D. Cook as Pastor of the St. John's AME Church in Norfolk, Virginia in the early 20th century. These tickets encourage parishioners to pay their quarterage, attend their class, participate in communion, and be true to their vows. Each one also has a short bit of inspirational verse. The tickets range from VG to G condition. Please see scan. They are oblong 2X4 inches. Unusual bit of religious ephemera. ; 3 pages View more info

Small (3 1/2 X 6) sales promo from Handy Brothers Music Co. This sheet is of interest bacuse it is aimed at minstrel shows and features aneclectic mix of music, including the spiritual (Oh Death Where Is Thy Sting), Hokum (Who Broke the Lock on the Hen House Door), and Rock (Shake, Rattle and Roll). If Shake, Rattle and Roll is the famous rock song, then this Promo has to date from the 1950's. However, I suspect that this is a different song that was more connected to minstrelsy and that the Promo is from the 1930's. This is still an odd grouping of songs, connected to the Handy publishing hou... View more info
