Front foredge has several small dark stains that do not affect the interior. The book is square and the binding is secure. Solid copy. Fasola singing is more often referred to as "Shape-Note or Shaped-Note Singing" today; it was briefly popularized in the movie "Cold Mountain." Rust-red cloth with somewhat faded white titles on spine. Otherwise, only very light, general wear. Folded sheet music for Amazing Grace laid in. The book is not dated but does have "1943" at end of "Prefatory Acknowlegements." This publisher listed printings after the first, and this copy does not indicate any later printing. I suspect that this is the first printing but I am not sure. This is one of Pullen's well-known studies of Southern religious music.
