Two volume set of Hume's History of England. This edition was published in America in 1840, though there is a second title page in each volume indicating an earlier publication by the same publiser (1832.) Both volumes are full leather with titles in gilt on spine with gilt lines as decorations. Both volumes have some edge, corner and surfae wear with damage and slight splitting at spine ends. Volume I has the ffep removed as well as all endpapers in rear. Both volumes have a former owner's bookplate on the front pastedown. Volume I is G (because of missing endpapers. Volume II is VG-. This is still an attractive set of Hume's great history.; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 780, 756 pages
