Masses & Mainstream, Vol. I, 1948

By: Sillen, Samuel (ed.)

Price: $250.00

Quantity: 1 available

Book Condition: Very Good+

Bound library volume of all issues for 1948. This is Volume I of the magazine and contains first 10 issues of this influential left wing/Communist publication. It is also signed, with brief inscription, on the ffep by editors Samuel Sillen, Herbert Aptheker and Lloyd L. Brown. Overall the binding is VG with very light wear and some general aging/soiling. The bound-in magazines have been well protected and seem to be VG to VG+, except that they are bound-in and show light aging. The only library indicators that I see are the numbers on the spine. All covers are present, and it is possible that they could be removed from the binding by an expert conservator. Masses & Mainstram was started in March of 1948 with the merger of New Masses, a Marxist publication associated with the Communist Party and Mainstream, a Communist cultural quarterly. Masses & Mainstream was published until 1956 and featured an array of well-known leftist writers and artists. ; B&W Illustrations; Small 8vo 7½" - 8" tall; Signed by Editors
