The book is a full history of James Weldon Johnson and his brother, Rosamond Johnson's composition, Lift Every Voice and Sing, termed the Negro National Anthem. A personal letter (2 pp.) to Lannie Davis from Heather Booth, Executive Director, at the time, of the NAACP National Voter Fund, is laid in. The letter includes a personal note in Booth's handwriting. Lannie Davis may be the lawyer and political commentator, Lanny Davis, who has worked for various Civil Rights and Democratic causes.
