This is a somewhat-used, library-bound, copy with a call-letter sticker on front, numbers on spine, stamps and other such stuff inside. Pages show some age-toning. Otherwise, this is a complete, first edition copy of a hard-to-find book. ; Ex-Library; B&W Drawings; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 61+ pages; Volume One of two. This important collection was arranged for solo voices by famed African-American composer, William Grant Still. A black and white photograph of Still serves as the frontispiece. A story, based on each spiritual, by Ruby Berkley Goodwin, precedes each number. The stories are illustrated with drawings by Albert Barbelle. Finally, the book was published by Handy Brothers. Either volume of this set is relatively difficult to find.
