Stitched, beige, overlapping wraps with black titles. I have a number of copies of The National Magazine from 1855 and 1856. They are all in close to the same condition. In general there is some wear especially to overlapping edges. Also some toning and foxing both exterior and interior -- see scan for specific magazine. Book is square; binding secure. ; Vol. 9 No. 3; B&W Illustrations from Engravings; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 193-188 pages; Each magazine has a variety of articles on subjects ranging from Nature, religion, history, travel to contemporary biography and literature. Many of the articles have illustrations taken from engravings. This issue has one article on Mesmer and Mesmerism and another on The Fur Hunters of the Far West. There are ten or more other articles along with several recurring sections: Correspondence, Editorial Notes and Gleanings, Book Notices, Literary Record, and Arts and Sciences. Each issue offers insight into what interested Americans in the decade before the Civil War.
