Leather binding is scuffed with some wear to the corners. Title worn off the spine. Hinges have been professionally restored and tightened.. Very light toning to the pages, no tears or missing pages. Frontispiece portrait of Spenser (with his last name spelled "Spencer") along with facing engraving advertising the Bell's Editions. Still has the tissue guard. The foreedge painting and the gilt edges are slightly dulled with age. This is volume 1 of 8 volumes of Spenser's works, part of Bell's Edition of the Great Poets of Great Britian from Chaucer to (Charles) Churchill. It contains Book 1 of The Faerie Queene, plus a biography of Spencer and extensive notes on the poem.
