Beige, pictorial covers with brown backstrip. Much of brown paper making up the backstrip has flaked off on the back near the spine. The book has much edge, corner and surface wear including an old dampstain on the back that affects about the last thirty pages. A former owner, Alice Reeder ofCleveland Tennessee, has signed her name in pencil on several pages. For all its problems the book is still square and the binding seems solid with no tears or parting. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 132 pages; This is a textbook-speller. This is the 1872 edition or printing. The first edition seems to date from the 1850's.
