Spiral-bound, pale blue wraps with black titles. Some edge, corner and surface wear with small corner loss front bottom right. Some light staining and fading, plus a name written in ink at top. Still square and securely bound. ; B&W Drawings; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 61+ pages; Volume One of two. This important collection was arranged for solo voices by famed African-American composer, William Grant Still. A black and white photograph of Still serves as the frontispiece. A story, based on each spiritual, by Ruby Berkley Goodwin, prededes each number. The stories are illsutrated with drawings by Albert Barbelle. Finally, the book was published by Handy Brothers. Either volume of this set is relatively difficult to find.
