This catalogue has only light, general wear with some staining on the Prices Realized sheet. The catalogue is near fine. This is a wonderful catalogue and bibliography of books collected by the Bute family of England and Scotland. Among the works catalogued here are works by Alexander Hamilton, Daniel Defoe, Thomas Hobbes, Captain John Smith and many, many others. A Prices Realized sheet is laid in, which includes name of purchasers with Quaritch, Maggs, The Folio Society and other famous British booksellers being quite prominent among them. This is an exceptional reference work. (We also have the first volume from this sale. Please inquire.) The Bute family, descended from John Stuart (b. 1360) who was a natural son of Richard II. The family, through the centuries amassed one of the finest collections or art, furniture, antiques, books and other material in Great Britain.
