Growing up in the 1950's, my friends and I went to local drugstore soda fountains for Cherry Cokes, ice cream sodas and sundaes and the like but we went long past the heyday of soda fountains! This book from the American Soda Fountain Company is part catalog, part recipe book, part business model and part motivational handbook. The original book was written by James W. Tufts, President of the Americn Soda Fountain Company in 1863 and had gone through many edition when this undated one was published. The pictures of the soda fountains show extremely elaborate mirrored onyx and brass contraptions, and there is no mention of available refrigeration other than ice, so I'm dating this ca.1905. American Soda Fountain Company would lead you through selecting a soda fountain based upon the population of your town, sell you a huge variety of extra equipment and ingredients , provide what looks like hundreds of recipes, even discuss cleaning and what your empolyees should wear. At the end there's a section on Hot Soda Fountains, so that during cold weather your customers could enjoy coffe, chocolate, bouillon, teas, and soups. Then, add light lunches and make your fortune! This is a fascinating book to read. Condition is VG with some light scuffing to the spine and edges of the boards, plus light toning on the end papers. There are no notes other than a former owners name on the ffep. The book is printed on heavy, slick paper with slightly flexible cloth boards.; Small 8vo 7½" - 8" tall; 263 pages
