His Harlem Wife (aka Life Goes On), 1938 Lobby Card

Sepia-toned lobby card for His Harlem Wife starring Louise Beavers. The image shows two men, one with a gun, standing over a dead body. There is a picture of Louise Beavers in the bottom right corner. This movie was released by Toddy Pictures Co. It was also released under the title, Life Goes On, which was credited as produced by Million Dollar Productions. I am sure that one of these titles was used in a re-release. Either way, this is a rare bit of all-back cast movie ephemera. Louise Beavers was one of a handful of major black actors in Hollywood with her role in Imitation of Life being her most famous. She was in only two all-black cast movies -- this one and Reform School. This lobby card has some damage from minor creasing and pinholes at the corners. There is a good bit of wear along the bottom edge plus a longish tear that runs between the words "colored" and "cast" through the print and into the image; it also branches to the right in the middle of the word "wife." Overall, this is still a presentable lobby card from an obscure all-black-cast movie. ; Oblong Small 4to 9" - 11" tall; 1 pages
