Deep brown, textured or ribbed cloth with blindstamped design at corners and in center; lightly faded gilt titles on spine. Some damage at corners so that boards show on tips and two small (less than dime-sized) holes on spine. Please see scan. Overall the book has expected aging both exterior and interior and light dusty feel. Binding is together with no tears or parting and book is square. Overall, G+ to VG-. Guild lived in Nashville and Gallatin and speculated in various enterprises including horses and outfitting a group of 49's for California. He finally succeeded in working for the L & N Railroad. He opposed the Cherokee removal and was against Seceesion but eventually declared for the South and spent some time during the Civil War in prison. Late in life, he wrote a personal history of himself and the state of Tennessee. This is not a common boo in the first edition. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 503 pages
