Deep brown, textured cloth with decorative bands top and bottom along with gilt titles. This copy has been professionally repaired and cleaned. The hinges have been strengthened and some endpapers repaired and reattached. The book is from the Spelman College Library in Atlanta but has only a few stamps, mostly on endpapers and the ghost of a call number sticker on the spine, not immediately noticeable. The association with Spelman may be a plus. Otherwise, the book has only very light wear and aging, a very attractive copy. The work has several foldout maps and images, all in excellent condition. The book chronicles the first 22 years of Hampton Institute and most importantly, lists brief biographies of many, if not all, of the graduates since the founding of the Institute in 1861. Very nice copy of this important historical work. ; B&W Illystration and Fold-Outs; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 520 +7 pages
