I suspect that this was probably sold at the park, but nothing indicates that. The author wrote a good bit about Florida history.

Blue cloth with blindstamped design on front and back. Lightly faded gilt titles on spine. Some edge, corner and surface wear with slight damage and loss at spine ends. Some soiling and/or scuffs on covers. Foldout map of Lake Okechobee area is present with slight diagonal crease and tear on top right corner, not affecting image. This map, which is often missing, was not included in the second printing. Book is square and binding secure. Former owners' names on front pastedown and ffep along with one owner's personal library bookplate on pastedown. Same owner signed his name on title page. Solid first edition copy despite wear. ; B&W Maps; Small 8vo 7" - 8" tall; 348 +ads pages; Guide to Florida not too many years after the Civil War. Hallock was the editor of Forest and Stream, one of the most popular hunting and fishing magazines in the US.

Half of Vol. 1 ffep torn off, one back fep missing, the other torn. Former owner's name on ffep of both volumes and some pencil marks. However, the text block is complete and binding is tight. ; Vol. 1 & 2; Small 8vo 7" - 8" tall; 290, 302 pages; Theodore Irving, who dedicated the book to his uncle Washington Irvig, used La Florida de la Inca of Garcilaso de la Vega as his primary source. He includes in the Appendix (Vol. 2) a narrative sketch of De Soto's route. This is the true first edition which did not include a map. Howes I 80. On hold for GW 4.7.12

Remakable condition for this quite uncommon title.Beatrice Marean was the pen name of Mrs. Rene R. Snowden. Her husband was a prominent Doctor in Ocala, Florida and The Tragedies of Oak Hurst was based on an event in Ocala, which is called Magnolia Centre in the novel. The characters in the story were almost all thinly disguised citizens of Ocala, and the book caused a great disturbance in the community. The story is that Ocalans bought up copies of the book and destroyed them, making the novel very difficult to find today. Thic is a very attractive first edition, first printing of this scarce title. ; B&W Frontispiece; Small 8vo 7" - 8" tall; 401 pages

All firsts that I find listed have 1885 as the date. However, on the back of the title page is the copyright date of 1884. This date too is on all firsts that I have found. James McQuade accompanied Rear-Commodore Samuel R. Platt of the New York Yacht Club on a cruise to Florida, the West Indies, and much of the Carribean. This book is an account of their travels.
