Chief Kisco and His Brothers, Knapp, Oliver A. Jr.
1 Knapp, Oliver A. Jr. Chief Kisco and His Brothers
Mt. Kisco NY MT. Kisco Historical Committee 1980 First Edition; First Printing Softcover Near Fine
Beige wraps with brown outlined lettering and drawing of Chief Kisco statue. Book has only light aging. ; Small 4to 9" - 11" tall; 43 pages; Story of the statue of the Indian Chief, called Chief Kisco, in Mt. Kisco NY and the many replicas of it, produced by a New York foundry, that are on display all across the US. One of these stands at the intersection of highways 41 and 225 in Calhoun. What, you thought that was Sequoyah? Guess again! I doubt that any of Sequoyah's contemporaries would recognize him from this rather generic Native American. This statue, with slight variations, appears all over the country. The author tracked down and photographed quite a few of the statues, including "Sequoyah," and talked to some local folks in Calhoun. It is a fun read, despite some errors. The book is signed by the author to a local couple.
