Brown covers with blindstamped decoration on front and gilt title on spine. Some edge, corner and surface wear but book is square and the binding is secure. Some wear at spine extremities. Varied interior toning, mostly from ink oxidation in type. Solid and still attractive copy. G+ to VG -. ; 12mo 7" - 7" tall; 422 pages; Although attributed to A Graduate of Oxford, everyone knew this book was by Ruskin. One of his most influential works in its first American edition.

Brown, full leather with gilt decorative border on front and back -- faded or scuffed here and there. There has been some professional restoration done - the spine was removed and cleaned and the book has been rebacked, preserving the title and decorations on the spine. Book is now tight and square. Former owner's bookplate on front pastedown . Interior is aged slightly but still in supple condition with very little toning. ; Vol. 1; 16mo 6" - 7" tall; 360 pages; This is Volume One only of two. There is no copyright date but the essays start with March 12, 1713 and end with June 15 of that year. There is what appears to be a very old booksellers sticker on the rear pastedown which reads: "Asperne (? ) Bookseller, No. 32 Cornhill, Successor to M. Sewell." Former owner 's name in ink at top of title page -- much older owner than the one on front pastedown bookplate

This maybe a printing from somewhat later than 1914 but it could only be a few years based on the ageof the woman who appeared in the play and had this copy.

Appears to be printed on hand-laid paper. Title page in green type. No date but ca. 1897.; B&W Illustrations; Small 8vo 7" - 8" tall; 128 pages; I collated this copy with a copy on line. This copy does not have four pages of ads in the rear. I cannot determine if the first printing had the ads or not. I see no evidence of remov al of the ads. Also, in this copy, between pp. 78 and 79 there is a facsimile of the original title page of The Pickwick Papers, that is not in the on-line copies. Finally, this copy comes with ten 5 X 7 1/2, B&W illustrations from The Pickwick Papers plus a small card that reads, "Purchased at the Old Curiosity Shop," and another small presentation card with an illustration from, "Dickens' Old Curiosity Shop." Interesting book about Dickens and his world with accompanying ephemera.
