Quarterbound leather with green pebbled cloth. Gilt titles and decoration on spine. Some edge, surface and corner wear, but square and securely bound. The front hinge has been reinforced and some endpapers may have been removed though the ffep is present and the pieces of paper that remain may have been part of the reinforcement. The repair is evident but unobtrusive. All issues of the newspaper are present and in good condition with light toning. Complete run of this magazine-like newspaper from July to December, 1856, plus the January 10 issue from 1857. Many beautiful illustrations. This is more like Harper's than a newspaper. The leather has peeled back from the boards on the edges, but the binding is holding together. There is damage (insect? ) and staining to the endpapers and top corner of most of the book, but it lessens as you go through the book. Pages 195-198 are loose. The paper itself is in good condition with expected toning and some foxing. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 564, index pages; In spite of the rough condition of the book, it is an interesting look at the legal system in England in the 17th century. In the back of the book, labeled "Table," is an index to a wide variety of legal issues covered by the book. The book was originally published in 1623, and this is the fourth edition, which has been corrected and updated.
