Hebrew Testament
1 Hebrew Testament
Hardcover Very Good
Bound in dark leather (or leather-like material) this copy has general light wear and aging with bumps on the corners. There is also cracking of the surface color along the spine edges and at the top and bottom of the spine. This does not affect the binding which is square and secure with no tears or parting. Some interior notes on endpapers, in pencil. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 1384 pages; This is the Jewish Testament or Old Testament in Hewbrew. I cannot say much about the volume because the only English is the Chapter titles. I think this copy probably dates to the 1920's. I begins with Genesis and goes past Nehemia to Chronicorum which may or may not be Chronicles.

Anecdotes of Missionary Worthies in the Moravian Church Related by a Father to His Children, Anonymous
10 Anonymous Anecdotes of Missionary Worthies in the Moravian Church Related by a Father to His Children
Philadelphia American Sunday School Union 1832 First Edition (?) Hardcover Good
Marbelized papers with brown cloth backstrip. Binding appears to be original to the book. Much edge corner and surface wear with much of the marbleized paper scraped away on the back. There appears to have been a paper label on the spine bit only small remnants remain. If there were any preliminary pages before the title page, they are missing, but there may have been none. No endpapers exist after the last page of text and there is no indication that any have been torn out. The name of a former owner is written in pencil on the front pastedown along with the address Mecklenburg County, Va. The front hinge may have been reglued at some point. Book is square and binding seems secure -- with note about front hinge. Unintentionally humorous presentation of stories about Moravian missionaries. The anecdotes are presented in a conversation between a father and his son and daughter. The language of the children is so stilted that the author may have been better off to have approached these stories without the artifice. The stories deal with foreign lands, Native Americans and African-Americans. I have not been able to find references to the Cherokee, though the date of publication (1832) seems right for some stories about that group. ; B&W Drawings; 24mo 5" - 6" tall; 116 pages

12 Anonymous The Psalms of David in Metre According to the Version Approved by the Church of Scotland and Appointed to be Used in Worship
Edinburgh Sir D. Hunter Blair and M. S. Tyndall Bruce 1844 Hardcover
Dark brown leather with gilt trim on front. Tile in gilt on spiine with gilt decoration. Preliminary pages are missing to the title page. This copy appears to have been misbound (or possibly reglued) . A middle signature is pressed forward, but this problem appears to have been caused by the bindery -- looking down at the top of the binding there is a distinct curve forward. All of the book of Psalms is present and the book is quite usable. Overall book is F-G. ; 12mo 7" - 7" tall; 453 pages; The Psalms in Scottish dialect. I don't know the story here.
