This entire package was designed as a "keepsake" for members of the Book Club of California. Relatively uncommon with slipcase and folder. The slipcase has only minor shelf wear. ; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 220 pages; It is one of a continuing series of limited edition books published at Christmas by West Virginia Pulp and Paper (now MeadWestvaco) Marcy was a US Army Captain authorized by the War Department to write a guide "for the tenderfoot traveler undertaking overland treks through the untamed west." Published in 1859, it remained in print for 40 years.
