The Echo of the Black Horn, Knight, Ethel
18 Knight, Ethel The Echo of the Black Horn
(Mississippi) Self-Published 1969 2nd Printing, Stated Hardcover Signed by Author
Maroon cloth over boards with gilt titles. Book is about near fine except for some light aging/soiling on foredges -- very minor wear otherwise. VG+. Jacket has a slight torn away spot at top right (see scan) and a couple of small chips at top of spine. Otherwise light edge, corner and surface wear with a light line of some sort on the rear. G+ to VG-. This book, bya a local Mississippi historian, is an account of what is known as The Free State of Jones. A Civil War soldeier from Jones County, MIississippi left the Confederacy and established a "free state" in Jones County which attracted other Mississippians both black and white. This event was the basis for the movie The Free State of Jones starring Mathew McConaughey. The story in this book came from Knight's grandson, who seems to have been critical of his grandfather. This copy is a stated second printing, though, since the first edition was published in 1951 and there seems to have been more than one printing, this may technically be a second edition. It is signed by the author on the ffep. ; B&W Illustrations; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 328 pages; Signed by Author
