Philadelphia Hall-Mack Co. 1918 First Edition (?) Softcover Good+
Brown wraps with darker brown and red lettering. Black backstrip . Some edge and corner wear. Damage and small loss at bottom of spine. Book is square and binding is secure, though because of age needs respect. Name written at top of front wrap. ; Small 4to 9" - 11" tall; 96 pages; Book for church choirs. This book is dated 1918; that is the earliest date I can find for any copy. This is probably a First Edition , but I cannot be sure.

Santa Ana Jazz Incorporated 1968 First Edition Softcover Very Good+
Stapled, pale blue wraps with black titles and illustration. This copy has only light, general wear, about near fine. Dixey's Essence of Burnt Cork Songster, (Dixey, Edward Freeman}
4 (Dixey, Edward Freeman} Dixey's Essence of Burnt Cork Songster
New York Popular Publishing Co. 1882 First Edition; First Printing Softcover
String bound with colored pictorial wraps and black titles. Some wear on edges and corner; the bottom edge has a good bit of tattering. The spine is gone and some pages are loose but the string binding stil holds some pages. Actually looks better than the description. Overall about G- which is not so bad considering the scarcity and ephemeral nature of this booklet. Edward Freeman Dixey was a famous minstrel in Philadelphia before and after the Civil War. This is a collection of songs associated with his shows, probably published ca. 1882. WorldCat locates one copy and guesses that 1882 is the publication date. Quite a scarce item. Minstrelsy has often been downplayed as an influence on the blues, jazz and other African-American music but it was a major music from antebellum days until well into the 20th century and was undoubtedly a major force in American music. ; 16mo 6" - 7" tall; 64 pages

Postcards Stan Wilson Hungry I Club San Francisco, (Wilson, Stan)
5 (Wilson, Stan) Postcards Stan Wilson Hungry I Club San Francisco
Linden The Mayrose Company ca. 1953 Hardcover Near Fine
Only very light aging and general wear. Two postcards from the famed hungry i club in San Francisco. Both cards feature folksinger Stan Wilson, who was the first performer at the hungry i in 1952 and soon after that appearance became the feature singer six nights a week. Wilson also influenced the Kingston Trio and probably turned down an opportunity to join the group. With The Weavers, The Gateway Singers and Josh White, Wilson is credited with the folk music renaissance that began in the 1950's. He wrote "Jane, Jane, Jane" and "Rolling Stone" for The Kingston Trio. The hungry i in North Beach was one of the first and pre-eminent clubs fo the burgeoning folk scene. Quite uncommon folk, California, and African-American ephemera. ; B&W Photographs; 32mo 4" - 5" tall; 2 pages

That Dreamy Rag, Adler Bernie (Music) and Harry L. Newton (Words)
6 Adler Bernie (Music) and Harry L. Newton (Words) That Dreamy Rag
Chicago Will Rossiter 1908 First Edition Softcover Good+ Illustrated by Starmer
Pictorial wraps with edge and corner wear including a bit of loss bottom right. There also seems to have been a dampstain bottom right with minor bleedthrough of some ink, to back of page only. The pages are stitched together (see vertical line just to right of left border) so this is still square with a secure, original binding. The name Standifer is written on the front along with a small stamp that reads "R. G. Standifer, Mgr." I'm guessing this is the store where the music was originally sold. ; Cover Drawing; Folio 13" - 23" tall; 6 pages; Nice, early bit of ragtime by a white composer but aimed at a black audience.

"Razor" : Uncool 2001, Festival of International Contemporary Music, Baraka, Amiri & Blue Ark
12 Baraka, Amiri & Blue Ark "Razor" : Uncool 2001, Festival of International Contemporary Music
Switzerland La Ciaf 2001 Hardcover Near Fine Signed by Author
Stapled pictorial wraps with only very light wear. ; B&W Photographs; Square 8vo 8" to 9" tall; Unpaginated pages; This is a booklet that probably served as some sort of program for Uncool, The Festival of International Contemporary Music in 2001. The publication information I have listed may be somewhat incorrect since the booklet itself is unclear. The Festival was in 2001, but the date 2002 is indicated as a copyright (I think) At any rate, Baraka and his wife wrote much of the booklet; Baraka contributed an essay entitled "Razor." He has signed, "A. Baraka, 04" by the title. The booklet has 14 pages of text and photographs. ; Signed by Author
