1 The Unknown Author America's First Big Parade
Little Rock Arkansas Central Printing Company 1932 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Very Good+ with no dust jacket
The book has light corner and edge wear. It is square and securely bound, a very attractive copy. ; B&W Illustrations; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 176+ pages; This is the story of John Stephens, an English immigrant to America who married into the Cherokee nation in north Georgia. The author is listed as unknown, though the story is attributed to David Thornton, a descendant of Stephen. The copyright is by David Cooley, who signed some copies under the picture of the "Unknown Author. " I suspect that Cooley, of Little Rock, was the author, but it is hard to say. There is much information on the removal (the reference in the title) and on the Cherokee in Arkansas and Oklahoma. One other interesting feature, is the swastika on the spine. The book antedates the Nazi, and the swastika was an ancient symbol of good fortune. I'm not sure of the symbols relationship to this story or the Cherokee. This is an relatively uncommon Cherokee title.
